I almost feel silly, loving it all so much. Sometimes it’s truly painful, in that amazing beautiful way that a really fantastic movie moves you to your core. It’s almost too good to handle. That’s how I feel about life. I want to wear it, eat it, smell it, share it. Thank you, cancer. I love you. And I hate you.

Jerry Springer was as surprised by his relatively long run on the third season of “Dancing With the Stars” as the viewers were. He was by no way one of the better dancers, but he certainly was enjoying his time. He talked with Rosie O’Donnell about it on “The Rosie Show” (Weeknights, 7 p.m. EST on OWN) where he admitted he fully expected to be eliminated in the first week.
“I knew I’d be gone in the first week,” he said. He thought he wasn’t the only one with such little confidence. “The morning of the first show, which would be that night, the hotel calls and says what time will you be checking out,” Springer added. “They had me booked for one week.”
That turned out to be a simple error, and he did last six more weeks into the competition. It was a good thing too, as one of the reasons he agreed to do the show was that it was a good excuse for him to finally learn the waltz. He wanted to know how so he could dance it with his daughter Katie at her wedding. He was thrilled that she was in the audience during that week of the competition, and even though he didn’t win, at least he got to have that moment with his daughter at her wedding — and not have two left feet during it.

Chefs We Love is a Valentine’s day tribute to those who have done great work in the culinary world — to those who inspire us to not only eat well, but to try new things in our own kitchens. With this holiday around the corner, we at Kitchen Daily felt that it was appropriate to share our love and respect for those who have most inspired and influenced our passion for cooking.
Yotam Ottolenghi is an Israeli born chef who lives and works in London — and he is a genius when it comes to vegetables. He makes them bright and he makes them exciting; he lets them take center stage. Ottolenghi fully understands the possibilities they provide. While he isn’t a vegetarian himself, his enthusiasm for this food group would suggest otherwise. And while I’m not a vegetarian either, I very much love fruits and vegetables — and am in awe of the culinary creativity he brings to them.
A bit of history for those who aren’t familiar with his name. Born in Jeruselum, Ottolenghi was well on his way to a life of academia with a degree in a philosophy and a masters in comparative literature. He moved to London at the age of 30 to begin his Ph.D., but instead found himself registered at Le Cordon Bleu and on his way down a very different path. He opened his first restaurant, Ottolenghi, in 2002 with a group of partners and now has five restaurants in the city. Two of them function as full-blown restaurants, Ottolenghi and Nopi, and the other three are very popular take-away delis.
Now more than ever, governors are tackling the basic “fairness” of this issue and are evolving, personally, to understand marriage equality as a civil rights issue. Politicians are realizing they want to be remembered for standing on the right side of history.

Kendall-Jackson Vineyard Estates CEO Rick Tigner took center stage on the latest “Undercover Boss” (Sun., 8 p.m. EST on CBS). The episode was as much about Tigner, who’s been CEO less than a year, gaining a better understanding of the company he’s been a part of for 20 years, and making sure it’s fulfilling the legacy of its founder Jess Jackson, who passed away in April 2011.
Along the way, he met three employees he was very enthusiastic about, and one who concerned him greatly. Rene was one of his truck drivers and he had a very “me-centric” attitude and some issues with foul language. As penance, Rene wasn’t lavished with gifts, but was instead stuck with office duty for a month so he could better understand that other side of the business. Ironically, he came up with a way to streamline their paperwork process that was so effective it was implemented company-wide.
Marco was a bottler who started with the company at the same time as Tigner to the week. He also knew Jess Jackson personally. While he was very passionate about and very good at his work, he felt under-appreciated by the company. So Tigner established a new annual Lifetime Achievement Award, named after Jess Jackson and with Marco as its first recipient. He also gave him a $10,000 vacation and $5,000 toward the DJ business he runs on the side.
Our world is facing the largest transfer of wealth from one generation to the next in history, putting into harm’s way more than 500 million Baby Boomers as we march headlong into old age ourselves — not to mention our adult children and our already-aged parents.
