Commercialization presents a mixed bag of opportunities and challenges to yoga as a discipline and cultural movement in the West. Although the benefits are substantial, the challenges present the risk of yoga becoming formulaic and commodified like so many other mature industries today.

February 2nd is a special day for three reasons. It’s one of 12 days in the year when the number of the month is the same as the number of day. It’s Groundhog Day. And most importantly, it’s Ina Garten’s birthday!

That’s right: 64 years ago today, the Barefoot Contessa was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. In a world where many celebrity chefs are known for behaving badly, she’s usually a beacon of decorum. (Though consider yourself warned, Ina: if you’re diagnosed with diabetes, don’t keep it a secret for three years! Your food may not be as manifestly unhealthy as Paula’s, but it’s not exactly dietetic.) Even if Garten’s pacific comportment keeps her out of the tabloids, though, it doesn’t make her boring, because her cookbooks and TV show continue to be useful, beautifully produced guides to the good life.

Still not convinced you should celebrate Ina Garten’s 64th birthday? Here are 10 compelling reasons you should:

For many golfers, buying secondhand golf clubs is the only way to go when buying their golf equipment. This is due to the many advantages of buying second hand golf clubs.

It’s around 25°F in Davos, Switzerland today. Thousands of world leaders have arrived for the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting. These powerful men and women will spend the next five days setting a course for 2012.

As an ambassador for the global health organization PSI and a member of the WEF Global Shapers, I am really following what’s going on there, primarily because it includes a significant number of young leaders who will add their ideas on strengthening the global economy.

I am really hoping that the leaders of the world’s most powerful companies walk away understanding the economic importance of global health. And that they make improving global health part of their business plans.

If you didn’t know, today is National Peanut Butter Day. So we thought we’d take a moment to honor the humble spread, not only for its role in our childhoods and its deliciously rich taste, but also for its nutritional power. Sure, the stuff is yummy, but did you know that peanut butter can also play a role in preventing everything from heart disease to Alzheimer’s?

Keep in mind that all-natural peanut butter without added ingredients is the healthy option — many brands include added sugar. And, as with all good things, everything in moderation: a spoonful may be healthy, but a whole jar is certainly not.

Here are some top health properties for peanut butter:

BOB *** 1/2 out of ****
SITI COMPANY AT NEW YORK LIVE ARTS

What a puckish, bold enterprise. Not only is Bob a show about one of the most acclaimed theater and opera directors working today — Robert Wilson — it profiles him by using elements of his distinctive, ground-breaking style. It was conceived and directed by Anne Bogart, created and performed by Will Bond (who has worked with Wison) and has text adapted by Jocelyn Clarke from interviews Wilson has given over the years. With the landmark work Einstein On The Beach touring the world and set to arrive at BAM in the fall, it’s an ideal time to revisit this look at Wilson.

OK, to be completely honest, we just felt like beating up on some Republicans today. Mitt Romney’s really been making this easy, by his pathetic response to the charges being hurled at him by fellow Republicans.
