Newt Gingrich Picks New York Giants Over New England Patriots In Super Bowl 2012 After Nevada Caucus

After telling reporters at his post-Nevada caucus press conference on Saturday to “take a few hours off from politics” ahead of the 2012 Super Bowl, Newt Gingrich revealed that he is rooting for “the team that beat the [Green Bay] Packers” — the New York Giants.

Gingrich’s presser capped a busy day in the Silver State, where caucus-goers propelled Mitt Romney to victory by more than ten points. Gingrich and Ron Paul spent the day fighting for second place, hoping to gather momentum and delegates going into a number of upcoming February primary contests.

Gingrich remained aggressive and optimistic on stage, telling reporters that he “will be a candidate for president.”

Mesoparapylocheles Michaeljacksoni: Hermit Crab Named For Michael Jackson

Crab walk, meet moon walk. In a new paper, an international team of scientists announced the discovery of a new family of prehistoric hermit crabs and made a novel tribute to Michael Jackson at the same time. The paper, published this month in German journal Neues Jahrbuch fÃ¼r Geologie und PalÃ¤ontologie, details the discovery of the first known species in the family. Its name? Mesoparapylocheles michaeljacksoni.

No, the crab doesn’t dance or change color over time; the name was the result of a coincidence. The specimen was identified June 25, 2009, and the researchers were in a restaurant later that day when they saw on TV that the King of Pop had died.

“Michael Jackson’s music will no doubt live a very long time and influence many people so I think the name is appropriate,” said co-author AdiÃ«l Klompmaker, a Ph.D. candidate in Department of Geology at Kent State.

Myanmar-Kachin Cease-Fire Talks Will Continue

YANGON, Myanmar — Myanmar’s government and ethnic Kachin rebels met Thursday for cease-fire talks to end several months of armed clashes near the northern border with China, but their preliminary meeting did not make any major breakthroughs.

After two days of negotiations, a high-level government team and members of the Kachin Independence Organization agreed to continue talks later and in the meantime to inform the other side before deploying troops, according to an official at the talks who declined to be named.
