High Heels: Worth The Health Risk?

A study released last week in the Journal of Applied Physiology revealed that women who habitually wear high heels are at risk for permanent physiological damage to their knees, hips, back and tendons — and damage can be seen in women as young as 25 years old. That’s because high heels force the wearer to place all of her body weight on the ball of the food, compromising stability. This, in turn, makes her compensate for the instability by pushing her knees and hips forward and arching her back — an unnatural posture. What’s more, that changed gait remains even when the heel wearer removes her shoes. Reported the New York Times:

The scientists found that heel wearers moved with shorter, more forceful strides than the control group, their feet perpetually in a flexed, toes-pointed position. This movement pattern continued even when the women kicked off their heels and walked barefoot. As a result, the fibers in their calf muscles had shortened and they put much greater mechanical strain on their calf muscles than the control group did.

“This is very familiar, it’s nothing new — we learned about it in medical school,” says Dr. Jacqueline Sutera, a doctor of podiatric medicine and surgery in Manhattan and New Jersey who sometimes wears heels. She adds that heels can also permanently shorten tendons and ligaments, including the all important Achilles’ tendon, which connects the heel to the calf. “It happens rather quickly — you might not be symptomatic, but I will say that with every step, you’re causing damage.”

The best and most important key into a good golf movement is balance. Most golfers who struggle do not need good balance through the swing. Poor balance triggers inconsistent ball beautiful. Poor balance can mean an excessive amount of a sway forwards and backwards from side to side in the swing, or by heel to bottom, or toe to help heel. No matter what the total amount issue, the golfer can struggle.

Principles On Ball Position

Compare these common set-ups owning a 9-iron, 5-iron and driver. See how the ball area moves slightly in relation with the left heel? Of course, this could be partly directly cutting with the reality how the width through the stance widens if you purpose your way directly cutting with the lengthier shafted clubs.

The downswing should begin in the ground upward. The kept heel is positioned firmly to the ground to be able to initiate the particular downswing, as well as the legs, hips, torso, shoulders in addition to arms. The Titleist VG3 Irons is longer from heel to toe and features small offset with a mid sized top line and sole. Trajectory is on the high side and is made for distance and forgiveness which is typical for the average golfer target audience.

One key component of a consistent golf swing is being on plane coming into impact. If you're not, you will not make solid contact with the ball. It might possibly be off the heel, or way out on the toe of the club, but you will very rarely find the middle of the face when your swing is off plane.

A Review From My Female Partner

The heads of the Tour Preferred MB Irons are slightly smaller from heel to toe than the TP MC, but the par area, where the face meets the hosel, has been made much smaller. The reason for this is that most accomplished players want to see the face coming right out of hosel.

The Ping K15 irons are a hybrid set made up of multi-metal irons and high launching hybrids, designed for golfers who benefit from a maximum forgiveness design. The K15 is able to offer distance gains by combining a large-profile, 460cc head, and a club face that is longer heel to toe.
